One position as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow is available for 3 years at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Department of Nutrition.

The Institute of Basic Medical Sciences consists of departments and units that pursue research and education within basic medical science. The institute has approximately 300 employees and is located in the Domus Medica building.

The Department of Nutrition is the largest department of nutrition in Europe that is associated with a medical faculty. The Department has a high research profile and excellent publication record. Research activities performed at the department are within the fields of nutritional biology, molecular nutrition, clinical nutrition, nutritional epidemiology, diet research and research on policy instruments.

Job Description

The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will be working on a project headed by Prof. Hilde Nebb that focuses on the nutritional regulation of nuclear receptors through ligands and post-translational sugar modifications. The overall goal is to define regulatory signaling pathways controlled by nuclear receptors in energy balance and lifestyle-related diseases. The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will work on developing new protocols for studying sugar modifications and their physiological effects. She/he will organize and execute the study, as well as analyze and publish the data. The successful candidate should therefore have a good background in biochemistry and molecular biology as well as experience with animal models. In particular, expertise on analyzing post-translational modifications using mass spectrometry will be an advantage. The Research Fellow will get the opportunity to work with project members both inside and outside Norway.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with the personal prerequisites to carry out the project within the given timeframe. The main purpose of Post-Doctoral Research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their discipline. The successful applicant may be subject to compulsory work in the form of teaching and some administrative work within the framework of the position. No one can be appointed as post-doctoral fellow more than one time at the same institution. Requirements

Candidates must have a PhD equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree. Successful candidates must have submitted their doctoral thesis prior to the application closing date.

The candidate must hold a PhD within the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry or equivalent.

She/he should have a background in molecular nutrition, preferably from the field of nuclear receptors.

The candidate should be experienced in molecular biology and cell biology techniques. Candidates with training in mass spectrometry will be prioritized

She/he should have an excellent command of written and oral English

The candidate should be self-driven, highly motivated, and able to collaborate with others to become an integrated part of the research group.
