The Department of Accountancy, Economics and Finance is offering two scholarships in the area of Economics to start in the academic year 2016-17. The term of the scholarships is three years. Successful candidates will be expected to make a contribution to activities in the Department in return for a fee-waiver, a maintenance allowance which is currently set at £۱۴,۲۹۶ for the year 2016-17, and a research support allowance of £۲,۲۵۰ over the registered period of study.

Applications are welcome across all fields of economics, including in particular econometrics (notably applied and spatial econometrics), development (from household behaviour and the survey-based collection of micro data to wider demographic issues), macro and monetary economics (notably learning in dynamic and monetary policy models and monetary policy frameworks) and labour economics.

The following is a list of potential supervisors with the general areas in which they are willing to supervise PhDs, plus, in some cases, (i) the more specific issues/questions they are willing to supervise within those areas, and/or (ii) one or more particular projects on which they would be willing to supervise PhDs.

Entry requirements

All applications will be reviewed within the relevant department with a shortlisting decision made based on qualifications, the research proposal and the availability of a supervisory team. Short listed applicants must have the equivalent of a 1st class honours undergraduate degree, or a Masters degree with an average mark of 68% or higher as well as a distinction level grade for the dissertation element.  Applicants who are unsure if their qualifications meet the minimum criteria should contact the School’s PhD Administrator to discuss their application. Please note that possession of the minimum qualifications does not guarantee shortlisting for interview
