A position as PhD Research Fellow in Cybersecurity is available at the Department of Informatics, and will be for a period of 3 years. The starting date is as soon as possible and no later than 15 September 2016. The position is hosted at the IFI Research Group in Networks and DistributedSystems (ND) and the ConSeRNS security research team at the University of Oslo.

Job Description

The PhD fellowship is part of the Oslo Analytics research project, and will focus on information security in general, and in particular, on security threat and vulnerability analysis, intrusion detection, and cybersecurity data analysis and machine learning. The proposed research topic is not expected to be final, since the successful candidate will ultimately define their project jointly with their supervisors during the first two months of the fellowship. The fellowship will have at least two supervisors, typically drawn from the scientific staff at the Department of Informatics and a project partner. Requirements

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Oslo has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. The candidate for the fellowship will be selected in accordance with this, and is expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Informatics, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering, with some specialisation in information security and/or data analytics and machine learning.

The fellowship requires admission to the research training program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. An approved plan for the research training, including a project outline (made out in cooperation with the appropriate PhD advisors), must be submitted no later than two months after taking up the position, and the admission is to be approved within three months. Due to the nature of the Oslo Analytics project, only candidates from European and NATO countries may apply. A good command of English is required.

The Department of Informatics is located in a modern building with excellent facilities and working conditions. In the ConSeRNS team there is a good gender balance, and an international environment with people from approx. 10 countries, where the working language is English.  UiO offers a good range of language courses, e.g. Norwegian for foreigners or English academic writing.

Salary:

Position code 1017, NOK 432 700 – ۴۸۹ ۳۰۰  per year (Pay grade 50 – 57)
