A PhD research fellowship in Eco- and Climate psychology is available at the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo. The fellowship is part of an assembly of eco- and climate psychological research within the Cultural and Community Research Group at the Department led by Associate Professor Ole Jacob Madsen .

A major aim of the project is to showcase the relevance (and even shortcomings) of psychological perspectives on the challenges and resolutions regarding climate change due to anthropogenic activity. Potential candidates are expected to develop their own research project in accordance with the overall project description (available by contacting As. Prof. Ole Jacob Madsen) that suggests three potential paths that are respectively quantitative, qualitative and theoretical in their methodological approach and involve the subfields social-, cultural- and eco-psychology. Note that the three outlines are accommodating suggestions, and are not intended as exhaustive, and can be departed from if the applicant prefer other approaches to the subject field.

The appointment is either for a period of three years (with no teaching requirement), or for a period of four years with a 25 % teaching requirement. The fellowship period may be reduced if the candidate has previously been employed in a research fellowship position.

Requirements

We are looking for qualified and highly motivated candidates with the following requirements:

A master’s degree or equivalent in psychology, or a cand. psychol. degree, qualifying for admission to the PhD programme at the Department of Psychology.

Applicants with grade points A or B on the ECTS scale will be qualified for admission to the PhD programme.

Excellent written or spoken English language skills.

We offer

Salary based on salary grade ۵۰-۵۷ (NOK 430 500 – 483 700 per annum). Allocated pay grade is normally 50 on appointment (depending on competence).

A research proposal stating the research background, rationale, and the major aims for the PhD study (max 4 pages).

The proposed project should be feasible within the three/four years of employment and the annual project costs should not exceed NOK 20 000,- unless the applicant can prove funding from other sources.

Evaluation of the application

The applicants are assessed based on the documented qualification. Particular emphasis will be given to the scientific quality and the feasibility of the research proposal, and personal qualifications such as ability and willingness to collaborate with team members and capability to contribute to the project within the given timeframe according to the rules and regulations for admission to the Department’s PhD programme.
