Position Summary

Virginia Tech is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position on a multidisciplinary team pursuing agricultural sustainability in changing global economic and climatic environments. This team includes plant pathologists, horticulturists, agricultural engineers, economists and information technologists. This new position is in the areas of aquatic ecology, evolutionary biology, and fungicide resistance mechanisms of zoosporic plant pathogens. The selected applicant is expected to work creatively and independently, and interact effectively with other members on the team. Selectee will do thorough literature reviews and identify questions of theoretical and/or practical significance in one of the three areas, carefully design and perform lab and greenhouse experiments and field trials, timely analyze research data and write for publication and present at professional meetings. S/he also will be expected to contribute to extension activities in the area of selected projects. A PhD in plant pathology, or a closely related discipline and effective communication skills including the ability to write research reports and publish in refereed journals are required. Knowledge and skills in molecular biology, and genome biology are desirable. This position is available immediately and extendable beyond the initial one-year appointment, contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding. Salary is commensurate with experience plus a very competitive health and retirement benefits package.
