Project Description

A PhD studentship is available to undertake research based in the School of Mechanical and Systems Engineering under the title of ‘Identifying causes of failure in explanted hip prostheses’. The successful applicant will join a vibrant research group which includes both engineers and clinicians and has an outstanding history of leading edge research in this important area. Working with a wide group of orthopaedic surgeons who will supply explanted hip prostheses, the successful applicant will measure the engineering aspects (wear volumes, wear rates, surface roughness and wear debris) and investigate correlations of these results with the supplied clinical data including gender, BMI, time in vivo and component position in vivo. scholarship daily news in www.rightman.ir

There will be plentiful opportunities to develop the research in appropriate directions given the successful applicant’s initiative and interests. To produce exceptional, internationally competitive research scientists and engineers, the successful applicant will participate in a strengthened induction/training programme supporting the acquisition of skills and competencies necessary to develop as a professional researcher in their subject field.
