Postdoctoral Research Fellow
A three-year fixed-term position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo is currently available.
The fellow will be affiliated with the Multimodal Imaging Group at the Norwegian Centre for Mental Disorders Research (NORMENT) and is funded by a Research Council of Norway Young Research Talents grant to Lars T. Westlye (PI,[email protected]).
NORMENT is a Norwegian Centre of Excellence, and coordinates a translational multicenter study involving all University hospitals in Oslo and several groups at the Universities of Oslo and Bergen. The main aims are to disentangle the neurobiological, genetic, psychological and environmental factors contributing to the development of mental illness. Through our infrastructure for clinical evaluations, cognitive assessment, neuroimaging and biobanking we are assembling a large imaging genetics database comprising data from healthy controls and patients suffering from schizophrenia and bipolar disorders, in addition to other brain disorders.
NORMENT Multimodal Imaging group currently includes nine postdoctoral fellows and several PhD and graduate students, and is directly involved in various large-scale international collaborative efforts and consortia (including ENIGMA and IMAGEMEND), to which the successful candidate is expected to contribute.
The postdoctoral fellow will play a central role in the analysis and dissemination of data from a large imaging genetics database, in particular focusing on developing and applying multivariate tools for data mining, classification and prediction. The research will be carried out as part of a cross-disciplinary team in close collaboration with other NORMENT core groups (Biostatistics, Genetics, Clinical, Cognitive) in addition to several international collaborators.
A postdoctoral position in Norway is equivalent to the US position of assistant professor and is intended to prepare and qualify talented candidates for a research career.
The ideal candidate is ambitious and highly motivated for pursuing a career in science, hold a PhD in psychology, neuroimaging, computational or cognitive neuroscience, biomedical engineering, biostatistics, or equivalent, have a strong background and interest in neuroscience, genetics, MRI analysis or biostatistics, and a strong publication record.
Experience with MRI analysis tools, and an interest and expertise in imaging genetics, brain network and connectivity analysis, or multivariate pattern recognition or machine learning techniques is an advantage. Demonstrated proficiency in shell scripting, Matlab, R, python or similar programming languages or software tools is a prerequisite.
Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date.
An ambitious and exciting research environment with a strong multidisciplinary profile and excellent opportunities for academic development. NORMENT has excellent access to a state-of-the art 3T MRI scanner, including facilities for concurrent EEG-fMRI and brain stimulation using tDCS in the scanner, lab facilities for cognitive assessments, and EEG lab with equipment for high-density recordings.
